Ska Train celebrates SafeStep app launch with sponsorship of walking festival

To celebrate the launch of its new phone app – SafeStep – on 04 July, Ska Train, a Shrewsbury based development house, has signed up as the first business to sponsor the Mayor of Shrewsbury Cllr Julian Dean’s walking festival, set to take place in the spring of 2022.

Supported in its development by the University of Shrewsbury’s Digital Solutions project, which is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund, SafeStep is aimed at people travelling or working alone. It is quick to set up, simple to use, and importantly it is not a tracker. Users can add contacts, create places and start a journey. If the person does not make it to the destination in the allotted time, the chosen next of kin or friend, receives a text notification and a link to the users live location.

Vince Dovey, managing director, Ska Train, said: “We were looking for an organisation or event to help promote the local launch and found the walking festival, a complementary match for SafeStep. Although not taking place until next year, we hope that our sponsorship will act as a catalyst for other businesses to support what is a great idea.”

The Mayor of Shrewsbury, Cllr Julian Dean said: “SafeStep is a great innovation, which I hope the people of our town and beyond can utilise to provide peace of mind to relatives and friends of people travelling or working alone.
