Market Drayton cafe awarded five star Food Standard Agency rating within only one month of opening

A mother and daughter’s new cafe in Market Drayton has been given a Food Standard Agency five star rating award within only four weeks of opening.

Paula Rogers, 46 and her 26-year-old daughter Carly Rogers established The Hungry Drayton, located in Shropshire Street, last month. All of the food, including a variety of American style pancakes, waffles, crepes and its most popular dish, the all-day English breakfast, is prepared on the premises daily using fresh ingredients. In addition, the cafe caters for vegetarians, vegans and people with gluten-free diets and offers a takeaway and delivery service. High chairs and colouring books to keep them amused means that children are also welcome at The Hungry Drayton.

Carly worked in sales for ten years prior to setting up the business with her mum,  holds an NVQ level three in business administration and an NVQ level two in customer service. Paula worked in a care home and both are making the most of the transferable skills gained from their previous jobs. Based on the venture’s success to date, they are also considering adding an apprentice to the team.

Commenting on this and the support they’ve received from the Market Drayton community, Carly said: “I’ve always wanted to set up my own business. Combining my qualifications with a love of cooking and a great business partner in my mum is a dream come true. The diners who’ve eaten here since we opened have all been very supportive and complimentary about our food to the point where they’ve taken away handfuls of leaflets eager to spread the word to their friends and family.

“We have intentionally used local suppliers since the beginning, from the purchase and installation of new kitchen equipment, design of The Hungry Drayton logo and shop signage to the continued provision of quality produce every day, for example, all of our meat is supplied by Mary’s Meats, based in the town’s Market Hall. Apart from our regular customers, lunchtime orders from Market Drayton businesses big and small will be important to our ongoing success.  We’re open six days a week and also look forward to making the most of the potential tourism trade over the summer. To top this with a five-star rating award is very exciting and definitely a step in the right direction.”
