Tech Data targets education sector with Google Chrome Management Console

Basingstoke, 20 November 2014 – Tech Data UK is targeting sales to education having been appointed as the exclusive UK distributor for Google’s Chrome Management Console (CMC) solution.

The company’s dedicated Google team will be offering pre-sales support and training on the CMC to education-focused partners

Chromebook sales have been driven by education in the US and the trend looks set to repeat itself here. Last year, 82 percent of Chrome devices were sold in North America went to schools or colleges and the total market worldwide was worth 5.2 million, according to Gartner. By 2017, sales are expected to reach 14.2 million.¹

Mark Glasspool, Director of Director of Printing, PC Components and Consumer Electronics at Tech Data, says: “Chrome is a really great option for education and CMC makes it even more attractive. Data can be accessed from anywhere at any time, and devices are inexpensive. With CMC, they are also easy to manage and maintain. We expect Chrome sales to education to really take off over the next few months. CMC completes the story and gives resellers a very convincing proposition to take into schools”.

CMC administrators can assign devices to users and get configuration and usage reports, pre-install and block specific apps, create user groups and control user access. They can also set network and proxy settings and ensure users are protected by web filters and firewalls, and modify user settings like bookmark and app sync across devices and even create customised themes.

Tech Data has a dedicated Google team in place and already offers a good choice of Chrome mobile and desktop devices available from top names, such as Acer, Asus, HP, LG and Toshiba. More products are expected to come onto the market in the New Year.
